Eli Savit has dedicated his career to fighting for people. From his time as clerk on the United States Supreme Court for Justices Sandra Day O’Connor (ret.) and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, to his experience as civil-rights and public-interest attorney, to his work as Washtenaw County Prosecuting Attorney, Eli has a track record of fighting for justice.
Keeping Michiganders Safe
As a two-term Prosecuting Attorney for one of Michigan’s largest counties, Eli Savit has a strong track record prosecuting violent crime and putting dangerous people behind bars.
By the end of Eli’s first term, Washtenaw County had a lower murder rate and sexual assault rate than Michigan as a whole – as well as lower than Eaton County. Crime overall within Washtenaw County has also continued to decline through 2025, a testament to how Eli’s approach to crime has promoted public safety. In contrast, a report found that in 2019, during Doug Lloyd’s first full term as prosecutor, the Eaton County Prosecutor’s office had a prosecution rate for sexual assault offenses of just 18%.
As Prosecutor, Eli Savit expanded Washtenaw County’s prosecutorial staff by six attorneys and added two victim-services positions —giving the office more resources to pursue serious crimes and support survivors. He also created a new position with a dedicated Prosecutor for a Special Victims Unit to prosecute sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and child abuse.
While Eli Savit led Washtenaw County’s pioneering, victim-centered approach, Doug Lloyd cut funding for his office’s Crime Victims Unit in the 2025/26 budget.
Eli Savit has successfully brought charges in multiple, decades-old cold cases, winning convictions against rapists who avoided justice for decades and bringing charges in the 1989 murder of a mother who had just dropped her son off at school.
In 2023, Savit prosecuted the case of a prominent heroin and fentanyl dealer who sold drugs outside an AA meeting. The defendant was sentenced to up to 20 years in prison after a jury trial convicted him of three felony charges.
As Prosecuting Attorney, Eli Savit has vigorously gone after human traffickers. In one case, Eli’s office secured felony convictions for charges including human trafficking and third degree sexual assault, resulting in a sentence of up to 20 years in prison.
